Spanning 14,750 square kilometers, the park's name comes from the Maasai language meaning "endless plains." It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the setting for the planet's most spectacular wildlife event.

Where it is

Located in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti borders the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the southeast and stretches north to the Kenyan border, where it becomes the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Its western corridor reaches almost to Lake Victoria.
